Weekend To Do's - Two To Do's

Ahhhhh, the long weekend is upon us once again, and the Labour Day weekend is a big one.  It's the last one before kids go back to school and it kind of (sorry everyone!) signals the end of summer.  The good news, its going to be warm and sunny!  Take advantage with these two outdoor events. The first is multi-day, so visit it on Sunday or Monday, the other is Saturday, and it's a great all day event.

The Canadian International Air Show runs on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  The best spot to watch is from the CNE waterfront area, but really, if you're close to the waterfront on the west end, you should see some interesting sites.  Ear plugs may be wanted.

On Saturday at Christie Lake in Dundas, the Greenbelt Harvest Picnic is a highly recommended, big act packed, outdoor concert. Google maps tells me 1hr from Queen and Yonge, just a little north west of Hamilton.  Listen to this line-up: Sarah Harmer, Gord Downie, Daniel Lanois, Emmylou Harris and Feist!

After this, fall gets here fast. So have a good weekend, enjoy all three days (or as much as you get!).  Have fun folks.

Design Destination - H.D. Buttercup - San Fran Edition Part 2

Two weeks ago I posted and showed you Timeless Treasures, an amazing little design store I came upon while visiting San Francisco. Its chock full of beautiful french inspired wonders.  Handsdown, one of the better finds I've ever had. It all developed from a quick little blurb (over at Design Sponge) online to a full fledged love affair.

Now I want to share my other favourite stop of the trip, H.D. Buttercup. This one was a total stubleupon.  Literally walking back from the Giants/Dodgers game, we walked by and saw the great entry.  How was I not going to go in to the store?

The store covers every niche you could need.  It has a restoration hardware-ish section, that if anything, does them better.  Flags from all corners, including a little Canadiana.  The tension between the rough Union Jack of the tufted bench and the Aerospace age polished metals is something I want in my living room.

Union Jacks on tables, chairs, benches, artwork, pillows... ...you get the idea.

There wasn't a lot of colour in the showroom, neutrals and muted tones dominated, but of those that were there, these three had to be my favourites.  Pop!  I love this red, and the yellow is great too, but can't you see that blue metal cabinet in all kinds of settings? I mean, you could put that in a farm house mudroom, an industrial office, or a living room in a loft. That's flexibility in design.  I love a store that offers that.

Speaking of that flexibility, how many stores that you know of offer metal cabinets, tufted flags and lights as elegant as this?  I want this light. I have sooooo many clients that need this light.  I should have bought and shipped this light. Don't even get me started on the ottoman pictured above it.

In the more, lets say "well lit" section of the store, there are many pieces to stop and take a look at as well.  The shelf above (ah, to make labels for those holders) would make an excellent addition to any office or wide hall wall.  Don't you want to fill it with every novel you've ever read?

To sum up, stop in at H.D. Buttercup and all of your needs will be met.  They really do cover all the bases. You can find light beachy sofa's, bright vintage chandeliers, or dark and moody industrial dressers.

Go by, check out the website, get what you need for your project, for your client, for yourself.

Bundle - o - lights

This light right here was going to be my dining room light, it still might be.

I love the industrial feel of these lights, with the black cords / metal supports and the exposed bulbs.

The mix of industrial / contemporary with traditional always appeals to me.

...and then I saw this amazing vintage piece on Sunday!  I'm in love with it, sure it probably needs to be re-wired but how amazing is it?!?  It's from the 60's or 70's and is made of black acrylic with fishing line.  It would look amazing over my small round pink soon to be black table.  Something to consider for sure!

Insta-weekend

New rug!

Wicked little vintage store I found on Sunday.

I bought a new book...Paris and a simple cover, I couldn't resist.

Was that just the last weekend of August?  Makes me very sad!

Have a great Monday.

Monday Pics - Antique Storage Edition

I was hunting all weekend for some antique storage.  With plans to reno/redo our spare bedroom to make it a little more for us, and a little less for everyone that visits, we need to come upon some great storage solutions.

One idea we have is pairing some fairly modern furniture with a great antique piece for contrast.  We did have some luck.  The display cabinet piece (see top picture) is in great shape, functions well (for this type of cabinet) but will the display ruin the storage function? I don't know, it might show too much.  The other option we stumbled upon is the antique file cabinet.  Drawers are amazingly smooth for the age, and it has six deep drawers for mass storage.

Now of course, when out looking for a piece, you may come across something completely unexpected.  Thats the case with this great Pabst Blue Ribbon, fully functional neon sign.  For my office?  Yup.

And the ubiquitous mellow weekend snap, down by the beach with a beer and a towel. What a way to relax.

Have a great week everyone

Weekend To Do's - Busker Edition

A shorter list today, but there are tonnes of things happening around town.

The CNE is still running this weekend, so the midway is calling.  Maybe answer it and pick yourself up some eats from Bacon Nation.  For example, a delicious Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog, a Nutella Bacon sandwich, or the infamous Bacon Explosion featuring 8 slices of bacon and 2 slices of Back Bacon.

When you're full grab a street car down to the Scotiabank Buskerfest.  Its started yesterday, but its running straight through to Sunday. There are acrobat jugglers, uni-cyclists and skateboarding clowns.  You can't have a bad time with that crew.

Now get out, and get a little wild this weekend.

Falling For Fall

As much as I love spring and summer, fall has always been one of my fav's!!!  I love fall leaves, cinnamon, warm cozy knits and most of all a caramel apple spice from Starbucks. :)
With so many great clothes and accessories out right now it was hard not to choose them all.   Some how I narrowed down my list to a few key pieces.

Whats on your fall shopping list?
