Insta-week

It's been a great week off, although I'm still enjoying the time off till Wednesday morning.  My time was spent with family and friends, I'm sad that part is over.  I also spent some time at Homesense purchasing cushions to add some colour to my life, the sofa and bed are a tad bit brighter.

Happy Monday and have a safe New Years Eve.

New Nursery - The Colour Scheme

With Christmas fast approaching, drafting time is not something I have had in ample supply.  Tonight, I found a bit of time, and finished up the north wall elevation of the nursery.   This is my work space as I drew away tonight.

West and North walls here.   I'll share more details with you and my thoughts on the room layout in a future post, but I thought I'd give you a sneak peek now.

This teal blue is just gender neutral enough for accents.  And paired with grey's and creams like this piece of flooring I've been hanging onto will work well.  There are two photos from a few weeks back...

...here they are, that I'm using as inspiration.  What I really like about them is that neither feels overly girly, or over boy(ly?!?!).  They're bright and fun and they have a sort of whimsy to them that I like.  That red, coral colour along with the teal/aquamarine/blue mentioned above are just the right pop of colour to add some fun to an otherwise neutral grey/cream room.

Great colour palettes are tough to find, and very time consuming to develop. My starting point is from this great site I found Googling colour combos.   They take (generally) landscape photos and produce palettes from the colours in the image.  I can usually find what I'm looking for or at least a close suggestion that I can print to help give myself or my clients a quick understanding of where the project is headed.

I should be able to find some interesting scando patterns or tribal when it comes to accents around the room. For that picture grouping on the north wall either a series of drawings or  a mixture of pattern and colour.

So the process is moving ahead. Come the New Year, the hunt for a great pullout sofa begins in earnest, as well as a crib and a massive closet overhaul

~

Take care, I'll check in with everyone a couple of times during the holidays.
Don't drink too much, don't drink too little.  Have fun. Happy Holidays.

Follow the yellow brick road

One of my first pictures I pinned on Pinterest was the one below, I immediately fell in love with the green curtains and grey walls.

The 2013 Pantone colour of the year is Emerald green. However I think there is a very thin line between a kelly green and emerald green, either way both are amazing variations of each other.

You can go bold and do an amazing bed or even bathroom cabinetry to make a statement.

Or if you aren't  too scared go all out and add green to your kitchen.

If you can't commit to such a wild colour in a large area maybe just add a painted cabinet.  Throw pillows and patterned curtains are nice options too.

You can even introduce this colour into your wardrobe.  How fabulous is that Jil Sander bag?

And I'm in love with this Rachel Pally dress!

However you decide to add emerald green to your life just have fun with it!

Is the spirit taking hold of you yet? No snow, but I was singing along to Kenny and Dolly all weekend.

Have a good week, wrap up things and work, prepare for the new year coming and take a deep breath.

The Obligatory Designer Gift Guide

Hey everyone, with the Holidays here, and Christmas only 13 days away, I find myself still needing to pick up a few things.  This of course had me scouring the internet for gifts and really just finding things that I would like!  Since many of you are like minded, I thought I'd share my favourites.

iPad cases. I need on., I'm afraid to take mine out of the house in case I drop, scratch, dent or shatter it.  Hop on Etsy and what do I find? About a million choices.  So here, dear readers are my his and her choices.
{For Her}
Very nice felt and leather case.  The broguing is beautiful, feels strong and feminine.  I like this piece

{For Him}

A little tougher, simpler and more masculine, this case is for a guy who wants a little sophistication in his iPad accessory choice, but still wants to be a man.

You want Furniture? I've got furniture.  2 Chairs and a desk.

The Louis Ghost Chair, designed by Phillipe Starck has been featured on here (in one knock off or another) a couple of times.  Gorgeous design, manufactured by Kartell (get the real deal if you can afford it), this will make any design aficionado in your home happy. Wouldn't it look great beside your tree?

Chair number 2, a Canadian classic, the Solair Chair. Designed by Fabio Fabiano and Michelange Panzini in Montreal in the early 70's, these chairs are stackable, cleanable, and handle the outdoors incredibly well. Maybe head down to INabstracto. Great authentic and vintage (though they sell some new as well) design store on Queen West in Toronto. You can find so many other great pieces there too.

Last in furniture, but certainly not least is this amazing desk.  This is on here simply because I want it.  Lovely wife? Reading this?  Take note....? Picture unabashedly stolen from EQ3.

For the designer you know, or maybe for you, because everyone knows we all need a couple of new items that we approve of. How about a case for your iPhone sporting the 2013 colour of the year.

Or the ultimate colour selection helper, the Benjamin Moore Designer Kit.  If you don't already have one of these, treat yourself - I use it constantly.

Remember, these can all be purchased for you too! And no one needs to know what time of year you bought them.  There's nothing wrong with a little Christmas cheer for yourself after a years worth of hard work!

Mindy Crushin

My love for interior design started a very long time ago.  I use to make floor plans with sticks and my pencil crayons for my barbies all over the basement, Barbie was living large!!  I  also loved to look forward to watching Mr Rogers.  Nope not for his life lessons or his crafts or to watch him change shoes but to see that fridge recessed into the wall!  Yeah I said it lol

Years went on and so did my TV watching and my search for my favourite TV interior.  Then came along Will and Grace.

Will's apartment was amazing and inspired many of my kitchen designs.

And what girl didn't dream of finding a bachelor apartment just like Carrie's?!  I know I did! Maybe it was all those magazines?

White subway tiles for days!  I can look at pics of this apartment over and over and still find things that I like.

So this brings me to my new TV apartment obsession.

The Mindy Project.  Have any of you seen this show?  It's hilarious and her apartment is to die for!  However I'm having a difficult time finding pictures of Mindy's wicked living room.

I was able to find some pics from another blogger, Viva Bang Bang on the same sort of search.

Looks like lilac walls and an orange door, I'm loving this great colour combo.

I'm thinking my TV unit should be blue just like the one above.  Oh and the wall mouldings!  It's perfect.

Do you love it as much as I do?  I know it's not much to go on but you will have to watch a few episodes to see the rest.  In this area it's on Tuesday at 9:30pm on CityTV.  It's just my style, a nice eclectic mix of just about everything. Let me know if you find any other pics online.

Mindy take pictures of the set please!
