Classic (New) Style Icon - Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Time for a new fashion post, and with Keri posting one yesterday, we'll have men and women covered this week!

I've posted on a couple of Classic Icons, Paul Newman and Michael Caine.  And while there is more to come in that department, lets call todays post, a new classic.  Mr. Joseph Gordon Levitt.
What a couple of years this guy has had, big movies, big press and coming out to fashion followers everywhere in a big way.  Just ask my Men's Style Pinterest board.

Lets take a look at these skinny tie rocking, fit suit strutting, classic cool images already.

These are in a rough chronology, and I think you see that in changes throughout.  Suits fit a little better and stye gets a little extra detail.  If they're out of order, well, my bad.

Skinny suit and I love the lapel pin.  Speaking of.....

Again, skinny suit, skinny tie.  Cool and young.   And there is that lapel pin I love.

This is from the first of a couple/few photo shoots for GQ.  Along with the lovely Claudia.  Kind of a vintage vibe.  James Dean-ish.

This is the GQ spread that really put Joe out there as someone to watch in the Men's Fashion world.  Its been pinned, re-pinned, blogged and reblogged everywhere.  And with good reason.  3 Piece suit, well done, proper fit, proper style, and attitude.  Who knew that the kid from 3rd Rock could rock this?

Esquire gave him the treatmentg as well.  Suits and afterwork wear, all shot at the beach.  Check it out here, really fun photo-shoot.

Lastly, from Glamour, my favourite pic.  It takes a fair bit of confidence to wear a coloured suit this well, let alone a burgundy suit.  Its what he wears well.  If there is one thing to take away from this, its the fit of your suit.  Getting a proper fit, a tailored look, is worth every penny.

Men's Fall Fashion - The Scarf

A few weeks back when I posted I said that it felt like a Part 1, Today feels like a Part 2.  I have a feeling there could be a Part 3.

As you may have guessed already, today is scarf day.  Now that fall is here, God knows it got cold this week, one of my favourite things to pull out of the closet is a simple grey scarf.  Best worn casually and without to much pretense, a well made scarf is comfortable, stylish, and really, quite practical.

This image screams crisp fall day to me. I love the layering, trench and scarf over double breasted vest(????) .

These are two great grabs from BOSS.    The red linen is great for fall.  The length means you can wrap it and wrap it the material means that when you do, you'll be warm without being hot.

You don't necessarily need to spend Hugo Boss dollars either, check out these on Esty.

Both infinity scarves, they are comfortable and flexible (the cowl!). I'm a huge fan of the yellow check over a grey suit.  And luckily for those of us on a budget, affordable.

Men's Fall Fashion 2012

Earlier in the year I posted on summer men's wear. With  fall just around the corner, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share some autumn flavoured thoughts.

It was hard to think about some new, cooler additions to my wardrobe with this summer seemingly going on forever,  but the weather turned this week (at least here in Toronto) and now I'm in the mood.

This is the best time of year to dress after all! Not to hot, not to cold. Dress comfortably.

The most versatile piece of men's fall clothing (and you've already got a few) is the cardigan. Two great examples here, dressed up and dressed down.  The cardigan is your chameleon.  Rock it over a t-shirt with old jeans, or under a summer suit jacket to keep you warm in the cool fall air.

This is oozing style. I love the heavy sweater over the shirt and tie.  Very neat, very tidy but very fun and on trend.  Once in a while, put the jacket away, grab something chunky with personality.

These two fun looks are brilliant,  though very different from each other.  I love the oversized bow tie and splash of colour in the trouser (though all a muted palette).  The image on the right is one of my favs that I've stumbled upon in a while.  The formality of the fresh white button up with no tie contrasts nicely with the warm leather belt and navy pants.

With crisp fall winds come cold necks, and an interesting scarf is the way to keep warm.  This isn't a heavy piece.  It should be light, it should be long, and it should add some flair without looking too contrived.

A peacoat three ways?  Absolutely!  Super cool and casual (seriously, look at that image, it bleeds cool).

And the new staple, something neon.  We saw it at the Joe Fresh show in the spring, be prepared for it to be everywhere this fall going into winter.

Maybe this is one is straddling fall and winter a little, but how do you not want to have style like this?

Whatever your personal style, stick with classic basics paired with trendy punches.  This post feels like a part one to me, so much more to show you from shoes to boots and ties to v-necks. Till next time!

Men's Summer Wear 2012

Gorgeous day yesterday here in T.O. on Tuesday. 20 degrees C, and sunny. Blue skies, big clouds. It felt warm and it made me think of summer and the summer gear I need.
Well, want, but need works.

First up - New Tanks.  They're everywhere this year and patterns are Fantastic.

Everyone is making one, but I don't think too many will guys will be rocking them, at least this year. So if you're a little brave, and a little forward thinking, you'll be well rewarded. But interesting patterns are the key to making this work.
Try tribal, floral, outdoors.

Shorts - Wear them as the name sounds, short, cut above the knee.  Like all clothing, suits to slacks, things are looking up or at least getting tailored up a little higher.
Whether bright or understated, well cut is the way to go.

Great head gear, from Pork Pie to over sized.  Try light fabrics and of course, straw.

And should all else fail, grab a drink, take a sip and be confident.
Charles here has been doing it for years.

Tribal etc. More Trends.

Call it what you will, but one of the biggest trends of this season and next, is the tribal/navajo/ethnic print. I'm a big fan when its used in a smart, subtle way. Like on this jacket interior below.

Of course, when its a little in your face, I don't mind it so much either.

This next triptych below is my favourite. I like the small details, the subtle patterns, and new uses.
