Girl in the Big City aka Big Girl in the City

I'm kind of sick of thinking and talking about my dining room wall  (here and here). It's still begging me for some sort of wall paper or paint. Aren't you tired of hearing about it?

So I'm scrolling through my Pinterest page and I come across this pic and it hits me!  I love it when a creative idea practically hits you in the face!  My wall is calling for a skyline!  A skyline I say! If I could do it with a cord like they did above that would be amazing.  Check out the rest of their work here.
The first skyline that came to mind was Chicago.

Chicago is such a beautiful city, it would be perfect for my wall.  But as I always do, I start thinking about options.

Paris, London or maybe New York.

I'm loving that skyline rug of London too!

Or maybe I could do a mixture of all my fav buildings in one painting.  That would keep me from second guessing which city.  I promise I will have finished photos of my condo in the new year!

Eames and Others - The Black Dining Chair!

I'm a big fan of all things black when it comes to accenting a space, especially a dining space.  As such, I'm here today to share with you some of my favourites!

One of the benefits of using a black dining chair is the versatility.  The striking contrast of a molded Eames chair and rustic or rough hewn table fits into a number of styles and decor.  The above are great illustrations of this.  From the very slick modern to a blending of mid-century and industrial.  In all three of these the chair, (and this may simply be the case whenever you are putting an Eames chair in a space!) are the highlight.

They can blend as well, and very well at that.  The chrome legs add a splash of shine to these otherwise understated spaces, and some much needed contrast.  Here though, they don't steal the show, they merge into it.  They become part of the overall, and that's a very good thing.

Black warmth?  It seems counter to general thoughts, but a less formal chair painted out in black really does warm a space.  Or at the least,  breaks the formality of a space, and makes it more accessible to your guests and families.

Lastly, and really just because I love this dining area, a blend of all the others above.  Minimal and with strong contrast, but the round table speaks to informality, and warm chair cushions to comfort and east.  This space is well designed, but it's somewhere I want to eat and drink with friends.

And would you look at those black chairs!

The Round Table

Slowly but surely I have been decorating my new condo.  Purchasing new pieces, arranging older ones and a lot of painting.  However I'm stuck on how to style / decorate my very small dining room table.

Layering always adds that extra little push every room needs, its like adding jewellery to your outfit, right?

This room gets me every time!  So simple and clean with white walls and wood accents.  However there is nothing on the table, although I don't think this space needs it.  So I keep on my search for inspirational pics of round dining room tables...

(side note:  I think I may need to move my large mirror into my dining room)

(and I may need to add wall paper to one wall)

The one consistent item on these tables are flowers!  Simple as that!   I've been racking my brain, going through magazines and the trusted Pinterest and it's as simple and as beautiful as flowers.

So once I add flowers I am going to need to address this boring wall.  It's asking for wall paper!  Suggestions?  Thoughts?

Bundle - o - lights

This light right here was going to be my dining room light, it still might be.

I love the industrial feel of these lights, with the black cords / metal supports and the exposed bulbs.

The mix of industrial / contemporary with traditional always appeals to me.

...and then I saw this amazing vintage piece on Sunday!  I'm in love with it, sure it probably needs to be re-wired but how amazing is it?!?  It's from the 60's or 70's and is made of black acrylic with fishing line.  It would look amazing over my small round pink soon to be black table.  Something to consider for sure!
