1,000 and Counting - The Pinterest Edition

When Keri introcduced me to Pinterest, I didn't know what to think.  Is this another social network?  Seems like a massive distraction?  I was right about one of those.  Its become a bit of a guilty pleasure.  I'm increasingly finding myself neglecting which ever project I should be working on, and scanning Pinterest for the latest fashion find or DIY project.

I even have a favourite Pinner I follow.

Over the weekend I passed the 1,000 follower mark, so I thought I would share some of my favourites with you, and post a couple new picks before I pin them to one of my boards.

My Men's fashion board was a huge surprise for me. I didn't expect to enjoy pinning to this board nearly as much as I do, and it's become the one that is followed most.  These are my favs and most pinned.

Interiors & Exteriors - In, On, or Around the Home

My biggest passion for sure. Residential design is where I spend my time.  I find Pinterest especially  inspiring for interior spaces.  Such a massive variety, all in one place, all for me to devour!

Classic (New) Style Icon - Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Time for a new fashion post, and with Keri posting one yesterday, we'll have men and women covered this week!

I've posted on a couple of Classic Icons, Paul Newman and Michael Caine.  And while there is more to come in that department, lets call todays post, a new classic.  Mr. Joseph Gordon Levitt.
What a couple of years this guy has had, big movies, big press and coming out to fashion followers everywhere in a big way.  Just ask my Men's Style Pinterest board.

Lets take a look at these skinny tie rocking, fit suit strutting, classic cool images already.

These are in a rough chronology, and I think you see that in changes throughout.  Suits fit a little better and stye gets a little extra detail.  If they're out of order, well, my bad.

Skinny suit and I love the lapel pin.  Speaking of.....

Again, skinny suit, skinny tie.  Cool and young.   And there is that lapel pin I love.

This is from the first of a couple/few photo shoots for GQ.  Along with the lovely Claudia.  Kind of a vintage vibe.  James Dean-ish.

This is the GQ spread that really put Joe out there as someone to watch in the Men's Fashion world.  Its been pinned, re-pinned, blogged and reblogged everywhere.  And with good reason.  3 Piece suit, well done, proper fit, proper style, and attitude.  Who knew that the kid from 3rd Rock could rock this?

Esquire gave him the treatmentg as well.  Suits and afterwork wear, all shot at the beach.  Check it out here, really fun photo-shoot.

Lastly, from Glamour, my favourite pic.  It takes a fair bit of confidence to wear a coloured suit this well, let alone a burgundy suit.  Its what he wears well.  If there is one thing to take away from this, its the fit of your suit.  Getting a proper fit, a tailored look, is worth every penny.

Men's Winter Fashion 2012 - Winter Winds are blowin' Edition

Winter winds are blowing.  They were howling down the tight Toronto streets this week. I'm not surprised. I mean, it is Toronto, not like we're in sunny southern California or anything. It's just that we've been so spoiled this fall, it felt like the winter would never get here.

But it is here. And we need to deal.  Here are my thoughts on making that happen.

Lets start with some details.  Ties get a little chunkier and heartier this time of year. I'm always on board for something knit, like these great pastels above, but layer them and then layer them again.

This heartier look carries over onto other accessories as well.  I love this bag, straight from the artist's studio.  Its tough and durable, like we need to be during a Canadian winter, but its got a great touch of style contrasted against the dark coat.

And what guy can go anywhere without a great scarf this winter?

Two really great sweaters to show you here.  Above is your classic winter sweater.  Winter pattern, reindeer and the right colours. Below is all class. Fitted, great colour, elbow patches. All in the details.

Outerwear, from formal to casual.  Texture in everything.  Naturals, grey's and neutrals are big.  The Marc Jacobs double breasted beauty here has it all.  Amazing texture, fitted detail, great colour, oozing style.

These two overcoats offer very different options.  I'm a bit of a sucker for the HBC print on anything, and this peacoat will get some looks, but comfort, warmth and cool are worth all of the looks in the world.  The camel coloured comparison piece has a great warm feeling, a luxurious texture and I like the ticket pocket too.

I've saved these last two images for quite a while now, direct from The Sartorialist.  They're from the Prada Fall/Winter 2012 show from early 2012.  The whole ensemble here is what sets the look off. The confidence of the models (both well known actors), just great fit.  Something to emulate here.

Classic Style Icon - Michael Caine

There are many men of style from James Dean, to Paul Newman to the present icon, Jon Hamm.  For whatever reason, I am always drawn to the impeccable Michael Caine.

Being a touch on the younger side of life, I didn't grow up with Michael. Many of his films have been found and stumbled upon for me.  The one constant through them all? Fine Detail in all that he wears.

Young or old, thick glasses or no glasses, always well put together.
